A fake Sodra or VMI message about money you are owed
A text or email says Sodra or the tax office (VMI) will pay you money back, and asks you to tap a link. It is a trick to steal your bank and card details.

What the message looks like
VMI: you are owed a tax overpayment of EUR 184.60. To receive it, confirm your details by 23:59 today: hxxps://vmi-refund[.]com
What actually happens
The link opens a fake VMI or Sodra page, and then a fake bank login. It asks for your bank login, your card details or your Smart-ID PIN. With them, fraudsters take money from your account. The sender name "VMI" or "SODRA" on your phone can be faked.
The same trick is also sent in Sodra's name — for example, about "returning" your pension savings. And sometimes it is turned around: the message says you owe a debt or a fine.
How to recognise it in three seconds
- VMI and Sodra do not send text messages with links.
- The address is not vmi.lt or sodra.lt — it only looks similar.
- To "get" the money, you are asked for card or bank details.
What to do
- Do not tap the link.
- Check your money on vmi.lt or sodra.lt — type the address yourself.
- Delete the message.
If you already entered your details
- Call your bank right away — ask them to block the card and online banking.
- If you entered a Smart-ID PIN, tell the bank.
- Report it to the police on 112 or at epolicija.lt.
